My Rottweiler 'Thor'
Dealing with S
tomach Cancer

We lost Thor on August 08, 2002.  He was almost 11 years old and has been part of our family since he was 8 weeks old.

Thor went to the vet in July, 2001and we were told he had cancer in his stomach.  We were also told that he would not last long and he would be in no pain.  He was put on steroids and antibiotics.

Well, Thor lasted over a year.  He was a very strong willed dog and he gave us everything he had, even when he was having a bad day.  We loved him so much that even when the vet told us to put him down so we could get on with our lives because he would not last through Christmas, we looked into his eyes and knew that he was a big part of us and he was not ready to go yet.

The night before he died he was outside with our other two Rottweilers,  just lying on the grass having his belly rubbed and enjoying life.  During the night he started to have uncontrolled bowel discharge and throwing up, we stayed up all night with him just cleaning him up and assuring him everything was alright.  My husband left for work at around 6:00 am (which he will never forgive himself for) and when I checked on Thor at 7:30 am, he had passed away.

We just got his ashes back today.  We know that he is still with us and his soul is still in the house -- this gives our family great comfort.  Our kids (ages 18, 17, and 12 years old) and my husband and myself are content that we did the right thing by loving and taking care of Thor to the very end.

We miss Thor very much.
