My Rottweiler 'Schatzie'
Dealing with
Lymphosarcoma

Submitted by Laurie Sieling on August 7, 2004

I am located in the Albany, NY area. I have/had  two Rottweilers (half brother & sister).  Kaiser,  two-years old and Schatzie, six-years old.

Unfortunately we just lost our beloved Schatzie to cancer (Lymphosarcoma) in July.  She was diagnosed in February and was only given two months to live.  We didn't put her through chemotherapy because she was on a maintenance dose of prednisone for the SRM (see below). She was the most loveable and amazing dog and our hearts are now empty.  She had a lot of heart and was really dealt a bad hand, but was fighter through and through.

She also battled steroid responsive meningitis two years ago with a temporary paralysis of her hind legs and we nursed her back to a full recovery (even though our vet had given her a poor prognosis and suggested we put her down because of her size).

She also had hip dysplasia, which gave way to arthritis. Kaiser is now very lonely and we will probably have to get another baby to keep him company but there is no replacing Schatzie!

Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions on her ailments.  We fed her a natural diet which boosted her immune system, and a supplement called BomaZeal Senior.  It's excellent for mobility and imported from Australia.
