| My
Roxanne was diagnosed with diabetes last
March. She is 9 years old and I inject
her with 50 units of Humlin L insulin twice
a day.
I
had noticed that Roxy looked like she was
losing weight and that she was drinking a
lot more water and had to be let outside in
the middle of the night. Her coat was
looking dull and then I noticed she was
having a discharge when she urinated.
Of course, I thought it was just a bladder
infection or something of that nature.
I was so surprised to learn that she was
down to 114 lbs...her "normal"
weight is 127 and her blood sugar level was
593...normal range is in the 200's.
She
currently has her blood sugar tested about
every six weeks now, but I've noticed that
she's acquiring cataracts and has a
difficult time seeing. She
did have a seizure once and it scared the
life out of me. If your dog is ever
convulsing, grab some maple syrup or brown
sugar to get their blood levels back on
track. I have a medicine syringe of my son's
that I keep filled with syrup just in case
this happens again....I just shoot it on the
inside of her gums.
I
can feel the pain of those who have suffered
the loss of their Rottweiler.
Roxanne
is the most gentle, tough sounding, BABY I
have ever met. She's scared of little
dogs and even apprehensive about a trash bag
blowing around in the back yard.
However, school buses, mail trucks, and tow
trucks are viewed as the enemy.
Anyway,
I just wanted to share my story in hopes
that it may help others.
