My Rottweiler 'Khayman'
Dealing with Osteosarcoma

Submitted by R. Kolb on 12/01/2006

I got Khayman as a puppy when he was just 5 weeks old. During his life he has had various ailments but none as devastating as the news I received Monday November 13th. Khayman developed a limp a few weeks ago and like many stories I have read I thought maybe he hurt his foot. Khayman is 12years and 7 months old. Along with several fatty cysts and the fact that his mind is starting to forget where his back legs are. Khayman really only has 1 good leg. Every time he developed a lump I immediately took him to the vet to have it checked. All turned out to be fatty cysts.

Going back to his limp. Khayman gets up and down. Eats well and uses the bathroom with no problem. The osteosarcoma is located on his left shoulder and showed in the x-ray to be in the early stages. His limp however looks like he is in pain and my vet has given pain meds to take home. I give two tablets twice daily of Tramadol 50mg each and once daily I give him Previcox (Firocoxib).

Reading the different stories on this website, I ran across a few that used Artemisinin with some success. I wonder how many more have used this herb and to what degree of success. I will continue with his pain meds as I know the options like most on this site. I do not want him to suffer and plan to put him down if the meds do not help. I will leave my email (rkolb777@yahoo.com) for anyone that is dealing with the same situation.

Update...On November 30th we said goodbye to our friend Khayman. The medication helped some but he was in such pain that we couldn't stand to watch him suffer any longer. His loss is devastating to us but we know he is in a better place. I feel like I have won the lottery having him for over 12 years. Truly a God send.
