Gretta was with our family for seven
glorious years. In March of 2002 she
started licking and chewing at her
legs. After bringing her to
our vet she was put on antibiotics
and had to wear a "lamp
shade." She was also put
on a diet as her weight was 120 lbs.
After
her legs healed, she began to chew
on the good legs. We took her
back to the vet and Gretta's weight
was down to 98 lbs., and she looking
good. There was no change in
her appetite or her activity. Again
she wore the lamp shade until her
legs was healed, but in the process
we noticed her eating had changed
and she was not as energetic.
After taking her back to the vet,
she was now down 14 lbs. in one
month. Alarmed, we had blood
work done. The blood work
showed an infection in the
liver.

Within two days Gretta rapidly
declined, at first the vet suggested
an ultra sound, but later we asked
him to think about it. He
asked to take more x-rays , which
revealed she was loaded with
lymphoma. The date was
September 11, 2002.
We
brought Gretta home to spend one
last night with the family.
She had turkey and eggs to eat and
the next day my husband, daughter
and I brought her in to the vet to
have her put down -- our son could
not bare the thought to come .
As my daughter and I held her close,
Gretta kissed us one final time and
just closed her eyes as the
medication went through her system .
This all took a matter of 2
minutes, but it was peaceful.
Gretta
will forever be in our hearts as
"shaky butt", always
shaking her butt with no tail.
My only hope is that one day they
will be able to find a cure.
Gretta was our second Rottweiler at
age seven we lost to lymphoma. |
