Just a few
weeks ago our son felt a small lump
under Buster's neck. I couldn't feel it
for a while, but about 3 days later it
was big enough for me to feel. That was
on a weekend and I said that the
following week we would get to the vet.
We finally got an appointment on that
Thursday (as it took more than 2 of us
to get him in there because he didn't
like the office). By the time of that
appointment the lump had grown to almost
baseball size. He had other symptoms as
in blood in the stool, loss of appetite
and lethargy.
The vet
tested the area. She said she feared
lymphoma. We agreed but also agreed that
chemo was out of the question. She sent
off the blood tests. She called the next
day to say that the initial in office
test showed signs of cancer.
By Saturday
morning, he refused his only food he was
eating (which was eggs). He turned up
his nose to it. The only time he got up
was to go to the bathroom. By this time
it was all blood. We knew it was time.
The poor
guy, he was only 4 years old. That is
what hurt us so much. He was our big
baby. We are still grieving, but
we have our 3-year old Rottweiler to
help us out. I just wanted to share a
story of love for a dog -- a member of
our family.
