Our Rottweiler 'Ajax' - Dealing with Osteosarcoma and Amputation

"In memory of a very special boy, Ajax, who lost his very courageous fight with bone cancer a few days ago, September 20, 2007.  Ajax was a miracle dog in that he celebrated his SECOND anniversary as a cancer survivor on January 26, 2007. He had an amputation when his cancer was first diagnosed and lived his life to the fullest before and after the amputation.  I am heartbroken for Peg and Nan, Ajax's moms, and pray their hearts heal in time and that they are both left with happy memories of one very special guy, that has given us who own and love this incredible breed, a lot of hope for the future.  God bless them both, and god speed Ajax."

Keesa came to us at ten weeks of age from Christina Riley, who was doing Rottweiler rescue in the S.F. Bay Area. When I lost my other Rottweiler, Mini, another of my rescued bitches, Hana, stopped eating and wouldn't come out of her crate. It was Keesa who relentlessly tugged and bugged Hana to come play and brought her out of her depression.

About a year later, a starving German Shepherd bitch arrived at our house and I found her playing in the backyard with Keesa and Hana. These three became the three musketeers and there was rarely a dull moment with three bitches constantly vying for attention.

Last fall, we had gone out for the evening and came home to find that Keesa had cracked open and devoured countless walnuts from a stash I had just harvested. When we walked into the house, we found her surrounded by walnut shells that covered the carpet from the living room and dining room, down the long hallway and into the bedroom. Although stuffed to the gills, she sat there with a walnut still in her mouth and carried it around with her so the other dogs wouldn't get it. She was without guile; just happy to have eaten all those nuts. We truly miss our little clown.
