Can You Meet the Challenge?

Cancer is a devastating disease and ranks as the highest cause of death in our breed.  Rottweilers are particularly prone to osteosarcoma and lymphoma. You may know this from personal experience, or perhaps from reading the "Shared Real Stories" that regularly appear on RHF's website.

RHF, since its formation in 1998 has begun the battle against cancer by funding grants to researchers dedicated to fighting this horrible disease.

We were approached this past Spring by Dr. David J. Waters with a proposal to fund a study seeking prevention against cancer - not just a treatment. It is a bold idea, even for a research scientist, and the RHF Board voted to forge ahead with Dr. Waters on his new "Path to Progress".  We pledged $10,000-$20,000 annually over the next 5 years to fund Dr. Waters' cancer research. It is truly a worthy project as it hopefully will benefit our Rottweilers as well as humans.

When we voted to fund Dr. Waters, we believed we could count again on dedicated and caring members of the Rottweiler community to support Dr. Waters' research. Are you ready to help RHF meet its commitment to finding a cure for canine cancer?  We invite you, no challenge you, as owners and stewards of the Rottweiler to participate in ‘The Breeders' Challenge,’ whereby you set a goal - an amount you determine that will be donated to RHF to fund our research commitments to fighting cancer. The monies that you contribute will bear your kennel name, or designation in RHF's Breeders' Challenge Registry.  We are pleased to gratefully acknowledge Friends of Esmond Rottweilers for their inaugural contribution of over $8000, raised in an online auction this past Spring.           

Will you accept the challenge? Will you step up to fight canine cancer? Will you contribute funding to find a cure?  There are many ways to "share the burden" of raising money for research – it is expensive you know.  Friends of Esmond Rottweilers had fun donating and bidding on items on their online auction. There are other ways, for instance, one breeder in the Northwest has her puppy people write two checks when buying a puppy from her:  one check to her and one $50 check to RHF.  Think outside the box, ‘or the bun’ as they say, and accept RHF's Breeders' Challenge.  Step up Breeders -- make a commitment to helping us support Dr. Waters on the "Path to Progress" towards cancer prevention.  Make that pledge today, do it for dear dogs lost to cancer and do it for saving those tomorrow.
